FAQ - Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions continues to be the hottest growing necessity in the beauty industry, and many women (some men too!) are dying to get them and to try new styles! I understand that adding a new beauty service to your routine requires research, so that you can know all there is to know with this fashion must-have.

To help with your research, I have answered the most frequently asked questions about getting eyelash extensions!

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

Eyelash extensions should not hurt when applied correctly. They are applied with appropriate professional tools by isolating one lash, and adhering one extension to your natural lash for classic lashes, fans for volume lashes or a mix of both for a hybrid look. It is important to ensure that the lash artists are applying the correct weight and length of lashes to your natural lash. Most Lash Artists put on under eye gel pads with tape sometimes to prevent discomfort and aid in application.

Often, the client will even have a little cat nap!

Do eyelash extensions look fake?

Today, there are so many styles and fads for eyelash extensions that they can be applied to look anyway that you desire. You can choose to have shorter natural lashes, large dramatic lashes, etc. Most reputable lash artists will be able to give you your desired look or very similar.

Typically speaking, eyelash extensions don’t look fake unless that is the look that you are going for.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

This varies from person to person. Most eyelash extension adhesives have a bond time of anywhere from 4-8 weeks. However, they will only last as long as your natural lash does, and like all hair on the human body, your eyelashes grow in stages. It is normal to lose 1-4 natural lashes per day which is why a fill is recommended every 2-3 weeks.

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

The price of lash extensions is determined by the particular artist and area. This means that it will vary from city to city. It is recommended that you do your research when shopping around for pricing and ensuring you use reputable resources for the best experience.

Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

When applied correctly, eyelash extensions do not damage your natural lash. Lash artists will apply an extension that is the appropriate weight and length to only one natural lash to ensure the integrity of your natural lash. Eyelash extensions can be damaging if your lash artist is not using proper techniques such as lashes that are too heavy, clustered (pre-made fans) or have more adhesive then necessary can cause your natural lash to break. This will aid in maintaining healthy natural lashes and enjoying the benefits of extensions. When selecting your lash artist, ask questions! Ask what type of lashes, the technique they use and where they were certified.

Can I wear mascara with my eyelash extensions?

You can, but why would you? If you choose to, it is recommended to use an oil free mascara that is safe for lash extensions. This is so your mascara does not interfere with the bond of the adhesive or cause early separation.

Can I wear eye make-up with my eyelash extensions?

HECK YA!! You certainly can wear make-up with your eyelash extensions. Again, it is beneficial to go with eyelash extension safe make-up. Extension safe makeup is oil free, and sometimes contains sealers to help prolong extension life. REMEMBER that if you use regular make-up, you need to remove residue at the end of the day. It is highly recommended to use a daily cleanser with make-up remover that is safe for your lashes.
